Karen Davey Contemporary Home Furnishings

Karen Davey Contemporary Interiors …

In 2011, Karen Davey decided to give up her day job and do ‘something totally different’. She sat down with a borrowed sewing machine, and very soon discovered her future lay in the creative sewing world. Karen handed in her notice and booked a stand at the Royal Cornwall Show, selling just bunting, two months after she started the business.

In 2012, Karen was recognised by former BBC Dragon Theo Paphitis in February 2012 as part of his Small Business Sunday twitter awards and has also set up a pop up shop outside of number 10 Downing Street.

In 2014, she set up Winifred and Mabel in Wadebridge, a joint project with her friend Sarah Pascoe-Beard as a craft co-operative. Winifred and Mabel give around 15 other Cornish handmade businesses a permanent high street presence in a great trading position.

In 2015, Karen decided to drop the Just Bunting name, to take into consideration the diverse range of home furnishings products she now makes. She now makes home furnishing products for shops, online websites, businesses, holiday properties, wedding venues and private homes.

2017 new candle scents launched

Here’s a sneak preview of new scents for Spring 2017. I have been thinking about a more masculine range of candles. I’ve started with soft leather and a smokey bacon scent. I asked my friends, they came out with scents like farts and petrol. Not sure if these would actually sell!  For valentine’s day (and beyond) I have chosen Romance is in the air, Midnight Amber and Love Potion. All real classy fragrances.  For the opulent end of the market, I’ve made some Earl Grey and Cucumber, Black Pomegranate and Lime, Basil and Mandarin. For those who know their candles, you will recognise these scents from the very high end of candle making. I have no idea how they get away with charging their extortinate prices, but there we are! These candles will be on my website and in Winifred and Mabel in the next week. Once I’ve gone through the process of photography and writing product descriptions etc etc! Making the candles is the easy part of the process. Selling them is entirely different.  I’ll also look at making some glass jars soon.  Let me know what you think on social media… Karen... read more

Cornish Beach House Interior Design

I was delighted to be able to make some stunning lampshades and cushions for this Cornish Beach House Interior Design refurbishment. The lovely customer came and chose some fabrics from my current range and I was able to source the other fabrics on her list. Jannine Neale, our Artist at Winifred and Mabel also completed a stunning triptych of paintings of the local beach, which is overlooked by this stunning contemporary home. If you have a colour scheme in mind, and I don’t currently have the fabric in stock, I am very experienced at fabric sourcing!          ... read more
